Sonya Vseliubska is a Donbas-born Ukrainian film critic and documentary scholar based between Amsterdam and Kyiv. A former chief critic of Ukrainska Pravda, she is a regular contributor to LB.ua Culture, Vogue Ukraine and DTF Magazine. In English, her writing appears in Documentary Magazine, Filmmaker, IndieWire, e-flux, Notebook, Modern Times Review, Little White Lies and In Review Online.
She is a member of FIPRESCI, a voter for the 82nd to 85th editions of the Golden Globes, and an alumna of the 2025 Locarno Critics Academy. She has moderated retrospective screenings for the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Barbican in London.
Sonya holds an MPhil with distinction in Film and Screen Studies from the University of Cambridge, where she researched the politics and aesthetics of Russo-Ukrainian war documentary. She fluently speaks and writes in English, Ukrainian, Hebrew and Russian. She has also volunteered with Cambridge's Digital Verification Corps for Amnesty International.
